A calixarene-capped round-cake like {Fe24} coordination cage involving the shuttlecock-like Fe4-TC4A SBUs

Abstract A round-cake like {Fe24} coordination cage is assembled by bridging six Fe4-p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene (Fe4-TC4A) SBUs with sulfate and chloride anions. The structure can also be thought to form by bolstering two {(Fe4-TC4A)3-(μ3-Cl−)} coordination triangles rotating 60° from each other with sulfate and chloride anions. Its magnetic property was studied. Moreover, no analogous of cobalt and nickel was obtained but some isolated chair-like {Co8}/{Ni8} entities.
