Antifungal natural products : The biosynthesis of the diazeniumdiolate natural product (−)‐fragin was investigated. Feeding experiments suggested valine as the initial substrate. It was also suggested that the biosynthesis of the diazeniumdiolate occurred at an early stage. In a SAR study, derivatives showing variation in the amino acid moiety, the acyl side chain or the diazeniumdiolate displayed reduced activity.
