Spectrophotometric Determination and Computational Study of Fluoride in Hexavalent Chromium Electroplating Bath

In this study, a spectrophotometric method for fluoride analysis in Cr(VI) electroplating bath was developed. The interfering of metallic impurities and chromium were removed by applying pretreatment process before spectrophotometric measurement. All the spectrophotometric measurements were performed at the wavelength of 510 nm. Metallic impurities and chromium in the Cr(VI) electroplating bath were precipitated in alkaline medium using NaOH and AgNO3. Molecular electrostatic potential (MESP) analysis was conducted to identify the attractive zones of the molecules. The electronic properties were investigated using DFT method. The results showed that it was possible to determine the amount of fluoride in Cr(VI) electroplating bath with 3% relative error. The computational studies were compatible with the experimental studies.
