Abstract We derive Mehler–Heine type asymptotic expansions for the Krawtchouk polynomials K n ( x ; p , N ) with n = O ( N ) and x = o ( N ) . These formulas provide good approximations for K n ( x ; p , N ) and determine the asymptotic limit of their zeros as n → ∞ .
