Response to Letter to the Editor: Relevance of HLA‐DQB1*02 allele in predisposing to coeliac disease

Dear Editor, We thank Dr. Poddighe for his interest in our article entitled “HLA‐DQ2 homozygosis increases tTGA levels at diagnosis but does not influence the clinical phenotype of coeliac disease: A multicentre study” (Bajor, Szakács, Juhász, et al., 2019) published in the International Journal of Immunogenetics and appreciate his comments. We agree with Dr. Poddighe's comments on HLA terminol‐ ogy. Though, the HLA‐DQ2 molecule consists of α and β chains, the role of a second α chain seems to be less important in deter‐ mining the risk of the disease (van Belzen et al., 2004). The num‐ ber of HLA DQB1*0201 copies might have the most important consequences in disease pathogenesis, though it should be noted
