Professor Bin Tan obtained his Ph.D. in 2010 from Nanyang Technological University, where he conducted his doctoral research under the supervision of Professor Guofu Zhong. He subsequently pursued postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute, working with Professor Carlos F. Barbas. In September 2012, he launched his independent academic career as an Associate Professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). After receiving tenure and being promoted to Full Professor in 2018, he was appointed Chair Professor in the Department of Chemistry at SUSTech in early 2022.
Professor Tan’s research focuses on axial chirality chemistry and core-structure-directed organocatalytic asymmetric synthesis. His scholarly output includes over 100 publications in top-tier international journals, such as Science, Nature, Nature Chemistry (5), Nature Catalysis (5), Nature Communications (8), Chem (3), Journal of the American Chemical Society (13), and Angewandte Chemie International Edition (22). In recognition of his contributions to the advancement of axial chirality research, he was invited by Accounts of Chemical Research to contribute two review articles summarizing his work.
Professor Tan has received numerous national and international honors for his research achievements. These include the Asian Rising Stars Lectureship Award, the Distinguished Lectureship Award from the Chemical Society of Japan, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the First Prize of the Guangdong Natural Science Award and the Xplorer Prize. He currently serves as Associate Editor of the Chinese Journal of Chemistry.
