In this review, we summarize the state-of-the-art research activities in porphyrin-based MOFs for photocatalytic CO2RR. Though numerous excellent reviews in the last ten years have addressed the potential of MOFs in photocatalysis, so far a specific review linking porphyrins to MOFs for photocatalytic CO2RR has been missing. Up to this point, it is imperative to have a Minireview collating and summarizing the recent research advances in applying porphyrin@MOFs, pristine porphyrinic MOFs, and composite porphyrinic MOFs photocatalysts in this highly demanded research field. The conclusion, challenges, and future opportunities in this exciting field are also elucidated at the end of this review. We anticipate that the guiding principles we provide will help researchers design reliable porphyrin-based MOFs for CO2 conversion and other proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) processes.
