Recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced the results of the National Science and Technology Major Program for Integrated Environmental Governance in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. A project titled "Research and Demonstration on Source Reduction and Co-processing Technology of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Fly Ash," in which our research group serves as a core participant, has been approved. This project addresses issues in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region such as the large volume of MSW incineration fly ash, limited landfill space, and lack of co-processing pathways by developing and demonstrating technologies for fly ash source reduction and co-processing. It involves analyzing fly ash characteristics and disposal pathways, utilizing multi-modal AI for technology assessment, and establishing policy standards. The research will focus on developing technologies for source reduction through concentration, separation, and returned incineration of hazardous components in fly ash; cost-effective detoxification and high-value utilization of washed salts; production of calcium-silicate-based materials from detoxified fly ash; and co-processing of fly ash with multiple solid wastes in industrial kilns. The ultimate goals are to achieve low-consumption, high-efficiency co-treatment and resource utilization of fly ash, supporting the "Zero-Waste Cities" initiative in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
