Our second work on photoenzymatic catalysis has been published in JACS, congratulations to Dr. Qinglong Shi and Ermeng Wang!
        We have been working on asymmetric hydroalkylation of olefins using 1,3-dicarbonyls as radical precursors since we reported the racemic version back in 2021 (click here for details).  Qinglong was the first one who started the photoenzymatic project in our group. After he achieved the oxidation-initiated hydrosulfonylation of styrenes (click here for details), he turned to hydroalkylation and got some promising results before Ermeng joined the team. They worked together and eventually achieved the reaction via synergistic photoenzymatic catalysis, that is, with the aid of an external photocatalyst. Prof. Binju Wang and team then carried out computaional studies and helped us better understand the system.
