Recently, Stanford University released its World’s Top 2% Scientists list. Professor Kuan Sun has once again been selected for both the “Lifetime Scientific Impact” list (which tracks impact over an entire academic career to date) and the “Annual Scientific Impact” list (which focuses on achievements in the current year). This marks his fifth consecutive inclusion following 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
This ranking is published by Professor John P.A. Ioannidis’s team at Stanford University in collaboration with the international academic publisher Elsevier. It is based on a comprehensive set of metrics—citation counts, the h-index (which measures both the quantity and impact of a researcher’s publications), the co-author–adjusted “hm-index,” citations to single- or first-author papers, and more—drawn from approximately ten million scientists worldwide. The list recognizes those scientists whose output and influence rank them in the top 2% globally across 22 major fields and 174 subfields.
