Interacting with Computers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, is an official publication of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and the Interaction Specialist Group.

Interacting with Computers (IwC) was launched in 1987 by interaction to provide access to the results of research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) - an increasingly crucial discipline within the Computer, Information, and Design Sciences. Now one of the most highly rated journals in the field, IwC has a strong and growing Impact Factor, and a high ranking and excellent indices (h-index, SNIP, SJR).

Topics covered include: HCI and design theory; new research paradigms; interaction process and methodology; user interface, usability and UX design; development tools and techniques; empirical evaluations and assessment strategies; new and emerging technologies; ubiquitous, ambient and mobile interaction; accessibility, user modelling and intelligent systems; organisational and societal issues.

Editorial policy : IwC breaks down barriers by actively fostering communication between academic researchers and practitioners to encourage the flow of information across the boundaries of its contributing disciplines. The journal is recognised as a major international forum for the discussion of HCI issues - a catalyst for novel and inspired thinking, which demands of its readers a forward-looking perspective. The Editors seek commentary on each submission from reviewers who range from specialists in the particular topic to those who are representative of the more general readership. They also seek to enlarge the pool of qualified reviewers by encouraging researchers to perform reviews and by mentoring those who are new to the reviewing process.

Thematic special issues : the diversity of interests within IwC’s constituency can be seen in the topics selected for recent Special Issues:
(2015) Physiological Computing for Intelligent Adaption, Intuitive Interaction, Methods for Studying Technology in the Home ;
(2014) Context-driven Human-Environment Interaction ;
(2013) Commentary on Scale Derivation ;
(2012) Presence and Interaction, Organic User Interfaces ;
(2011) Feminism and HCI, Designing Interaction for Inclusive Populations, Modelling User Experience;
(2010) Computer Interventions for Mental Health;
(2009) Enactive Interfaces;
(2008) On the Abuse and Misuse of Social Agents, HCI Issues in Computer Games.

Rapid turnaround : IwC maintains the highest possible standards of scholarly publishing, as demanded by its readers, balanced with the demand for rapid turnaround from its contributors.

The Editorial Board : central to the journal’s success are the many inspired and inspiring researchers from around the globe. Founding Editors have been central to the development of what was at the time a new discipline. Many of the key words of that discipline have subsequently entered everyday usage.

Readership : Today, HCI is a truly multi-disciplinary field; IwC’s readership includes industry practitioners such as interaction designers, ergonomists and usability and human factors professionals as well as educational technologists and researchers from the social sciences, computer science and information science.
