A pH‐sensitive sodium biosensor: In vitro selection yielded a mutant of a previously reported sodium‐specific DNAzyme with a slightly acidic pH optimum and the same excellent specificity for Na+. It was engineered into a fluorescent Na+ biosensor with a detection limit of 223 μm Na+ by attaching a fluorophore/quencher pair. Preliminary detection of Na+ in serum was demonstrated.
