In the beginning… The formation of alanine and glycine oligomers in films produced by drying aqueous mixtures of lactic acid and silica nanoparticles have been studied under plausible prebiotic conditions. Amino acids (AA) and simple hydroxy acids produce AA‐enriched amide/ester‐linked oligomers under simple low‐temperature evaporative conditions in the presence of silica in a single evaporative step.
