Oxyfunctionalization of steroids by CYP154C8 is a new and interesting area of study. Multistep hydroxylation of progesterone and 21‐hydroxylation of corticosterone are special characteristics of CYP154C8 from the CYP154 family. The CYP154C8‐catalyzed generation of 2α,16α‐dihydroxyprogesterone, 6β,16α‐dihydroxyprogesterone, and 21‐hydroxycorticosterone metabolites is the first reported enzymatic method for these transformations.
