“I just thought as soon as I got out of the hospital and into my own home I would get back to my life again, but it didn't work that way”. On Nov 15, 2016, Alice Hoy's life changed dramatically; although she woke up feeling ok, she was rushed to hospital only hours later with severe sepsis caused by a double-strangulated hernia. Hoy spent almost two weeks in the intensive-care unit (ICU) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (Glasgow, UK), experiencing profound memory loss, delirium, and acquired muscle weakness.
