First page of articleAsthma is the most common chronic childhood disease, and its prevalence has increased substantially in recent years.1 Asthma is a heterogeneous group of diseases, some of which are related to specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, and different endotypes with diverging disease courses have been defined based on molecular mechanisms.2 Epigenetic changes in asthma and allergic diseases have recently attracted considerable interest because they might mediate the disease-predisposing and protecting effects of the environment on gene regulation and are implicated in the differentiation of disease-relevant immune cell subtypes.
