The rate of Phe oxidation in peptides is strongly modulated by the lone pairs of amide carbonyl groups, which stabilise the arene radical cation through neighbouring‐group effects and facilitate oxidation of the aromatic ring. This finding shows that Phe could act as a very efficient stepping stone to mediate long‐distance electron hole transport in peptides.
