A simple synthesis of the phenanthrene scaffold from α‐bromochalcones under visible‐light photoredox catalysis is described. The corresponding α‐keto vinyl radicals are generated under irradiation with blue light in the presence of photocatalyst fac‐[Ir(ppy)3]. The radical subsequently undergoes intramolecular cyclization with the ortho‐aryl/heteroaryl ring to afford the phenanthrene scaffold.
