Construction of 4‐Isochromanones through Cu(OTf)2‐Catalysed Sequential C=O and C–O Bond Formation

A new Cu(OTf)2‐Catalysed sequential reaction involving the oxidative ring opening of epoxides by the solvent DMSO and an oxa‐Michael addition of electron‐deficient alkenes has been developed. In this transformation, one new C=O bond and one new C–O bond are created. The sequential reaction allows the rapid and efficient synthesis of 4‐isochromanones in moderate to good yields under mild conditions.
