This paper deals with the global challenge of enhancing the health and, ultimately, quality of life (QoL) of the ageing population. Recent studies have shown a shift of research focus on whether and why neighbourhood factors matter to how different specific aspects of neighbourhood factors affect the elderly’s health and/or QoL. Through a review of the current pertinent literature, this paper systematically highlights some significant findings, discusses the limitations in the research to date, and suggests some directions for future study.
