Mechanistic studies indicate that the CDC ligand can dissociate under relatively mild conditions to afford active olefin metathesis catalysts. These catalysts were found to be effective at ring-closing metathesis (RCM) and ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) reactions.
