Putting particles on polymers: A cross-linked ionic (cationic) polymer with different anions is used as a stabilizer for the synthesis of platinum nanoparticles (NPs). The NPs are studied as catalysts in the oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to form 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (see figure). The polymer with the bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anion results in the best catalytic results.
