1. Pd(II)-catalyzed synthesis of bifunctionalized carboranes via cage B–H activation of 1-CH2NH2-o-carboranes

Scientists in China report that the reversible conversion of o-carboranyl methylamines into bidentate imines initiates Pd-mediated cage B-H activation. The group isolated an amine coordinated Pd(II) complex that was shown to be the catalytically active intermediate for highly-selective B-H diarylation of o-carboranyl methylamines. Using glyoxylic acid as a directing agent, a series of B(4,5)-diarylated free primary o-carboranyl methylamines were obtained. These findings will be useful for the synthesis of bifunctionalized carboranes for pharmaceutical applications.

2. Mechano-induced persistent room-temperature phosphorescence from purely organic molecules

Researchers in the UK and China report a persistent room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) from an organic material that can be induced by mechanical action. In its crystalline state, it has an emission lifetime of 0.15s at room temperature, which arises from the intermolecular electronic coupling of units with different excited state configurations. The group observed that two different crystals could be grown from this material, with and without mechano-induced persistent RTP. The mechano-luminescence depends upon the crystals' intermolecular interactions.


中山大学和英国达勒姆大学的研究人员合作报道了一种力学作用诱导产生持久室温磷光(RTP)的有机材料。在晶体状态下,基于不同激发态构型单元的分子间电子偶合作用,该材料在室温下的发射寿命为0.15秒。该课题组观察到,这种材料能够形成两种不同的晶体,仅其中一种具有力学作用诱导的持久RTP。这种力致发光取决于晶体的分子间相互作用。

1. Controllable synthetic ion channels

The author provided a comprehensive review on the development of synthetic ion channels with controllable transport behaviour over the past three decades. The most inspiring channels with voltage-, ligand-, light- and mechano-gating, as well as rectifying behaviours have been discussed in regard to their structures and functions in the hope of providing an easily accessible understanding of the field to the general reader. In addition, promising directions and major remaining challenges are also addressed.

2. Asymmetric total syntheses of callistrilones B, G and J

A very concise approach for the first asymmetric and scalable total syntheses of callistrilones B, G and J has been developed. These syntheses proceeded in only 3–4 steps from the commercially available (−)-α-phellandrene (8), without the need for protecting groups. The key feature of the syntheses was a biomimetic, diastereo- and regioselective oxidative [3 + 2] cycloaddition.


研究人员首次发展了一种不对称和可扩大规模的callistrilones B、G和J的全合成方法。合成中无需使用保护基团,从市售的(−)-α-水芹烯(8)出发只需要3到4步。合成的关键是仿生、非对映选择性和区域选择性的氧化[3 + 2]环加成过程。
