Living supramolecular polymerization: The first perylene bisimide (PBI) based multicycle living polymerization system is reported. The bay-substituted PBI organogelator forms off-pathway H-aggregates that are transformed into thermodynamically favored fluorescent J-aggregates by a living seeded polymerization.
