Reactions between BiCl3, Br2, and chlorides of various organic cations in HCl result in formation of one- or two-dimensional supramolecular networks built of chlorobismuthate and {Br2} units. The nature of non-covalent Cl···Br interactions was studied by DFT calculations, which enabled the estimation of their energies (1.9–6.0 kcal/mol).
