Unexpected formation of tubular architecture by optically active pure organic calixsalen

The unusual tubular formation of supramolecular organic framework by optically active macrocyclic calixsalen was shown by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The monomers are bound either by hydrogen bonds between OH groups at lower rim of the macrocycle to form a “hourglass” structure or form a capsule with the calixsalens arranged in a head-to-head motif.
