As of Sept 1, 2017, more than 1400 people have died in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan as the worst flooding in decades overwhelms the region. Around 41 million people are estimated to have been affected so far by flooding during heavy monsoon rains. Many people are living in makeshift shelters on high ground, with little chance of access to medical care. Meanwhile, Hurricane Harvey has caused devastation across southern US states since the storm made landfall on Aug 25. So far, the storm has killed more than 40 people in Texas, and has damaged or destroyed around 50 000 homes.
